Stride Against Genocide: 5k Walk and Run for Sudan

Since 2003, the government of Sudan and Janjaweed militias have systematically killed over 400,000 civilians in the Darfur region of Sudan in a crisis that has been labeled a genocide time and again.
Over 2.5 million people have been left to die in the desert by their own government. Malnutrition and diesease among those in refugee camps have become silent killers. Due to the insecurity of the region, even the most prominent aid groups have been forced to pull out of the region.
This recent violence, compounded by a 21-year civil war concluded in 2005 has left the region destitute.
Fortunately, Water for Sudan, one of the few humanitarian organizations still on the ground in Sudan is refusing to allow more innocent civilians to die. Cardinal Spellman High School's chapter of STAND: A Student Anti Genocide Coaltion is joining Water for Sudan's efforts by hosting the "Stride Against Genocide" 5k Walk and Run event this spring.
